The Waking Way is one of two key commissions to be implemented from the artist’s Lead Artist Commissioning Strategy for Fraserburgh Public Realm Project, part of the Revitalisation of Harbour Towns Project involving six towns in North East Scotland, Germany and Holland.

Project Summary

Project : The Walking Way
Client : Aberdeenshire Council
Partners : Fraserburgh Futures Partnership
Location : Fraserburgh
Sector : Public
Duration : 2005 - 2008

The Walking Way brief required the artist to define and enhance an underused pedestrian route from the town to the esplanade. The art and landscape intervention creates a three part pathway which includes as its key central element, a curving sculptural structure inspired by the town’s rail and maritime history

Working in collaboration with landscape architect Guto Jones during detail design, and with Hunter Construction during implementation, a wide white cast in situ concrete walking way, with embedded and vertical timber elements, was constructed along the edge of The Links, enhanced with tree and white wild flower planting.
