The four schools were designed by architects RMJM as a series of simple architectural forms, in complementary block arrangements and materials, composed in variation according to the opportunities and constraints of each site. The artist was commissioned to lead the school grounds development elements of the project.

Project Summary

Project : Four Glasgow Schools
Client : Barr Construction
Partners : Glasgow City Council
Location : Glasgow
Sector : Public
Duration : 2005 - 2007

The artist response to the brief and to the needs of the schools was to echo the architectural approach in that a small palette of simple motifs are used to access the landscape - a path, an amphitheatre and a garden.

Working in close collaboration with the Project Team, the designs centred on an elegant asymmetrical curve and were specified in cast white concrete, timber, paving, play surface and planting. The schools also share a colour palette of white, ochre, rust, cerise, purple and green which is used to link external planting and internal feature walls.
